Precious quotes from both girls tonight...
As Kristen is trying to find something else to eat besides what I cooked, Kaylen tells her, "Mommy's cooking isn't that bad."
At bedtime as Kristen is reflecting on a conversation we had with them about why kids are in foster care she says, "I'm glad I don't have a mean mommy....a really mean mommy."

Exalted?

Kristen wrote a new song today. It's actually just a variation of a well-known worship song. Her words go something like this..."He is exhausted, the King is exhausted on high, I will praise Him. He is exhausted the King is exhausted and I will praise His name..."

My commendation

Recently Kristen told me "you're the best mommy I've ever had." Just trying to figure out how many others she's had.

The "Un-Quote"

As I was sitting here at my computer about 10:00 tonight Kaylen walks up next to me and put her head on my shoulder. Now, she was put to bed about 8:45 so I had 2 thoughts...a) did she go to sleep and wake up or b) has she not even been asleep? I asked her 3 times in 3 different ways and couldn't get her to answer. I looked over at her and saw that her eyes were closed and about then she just leaned into me. So I got up from my chair, took her hand and started walking her back to her bedroom. But she stopped at the bathroom, turned on the light, pulled down her pants, and sat on the toilet. As she was doing her thing (#1 if you are interested) she closed her eyes and swayed while on the toilet seat. So after running to tell Scott that I thought she was sleepwalking I gave her some toilet paper since she hadn't made the move herself. She used the t.p. and got up and followed her regular routine (clothing, flush, hand washing, etc). She attempted to turn off the light but hit a different switch and appeared to be confused about that. I turned off the light for her and took her hand again. She walked into her room and got in bed. I helped her pull the sheet up and kissed her forehead. She never once said anything. I know this isn't a quote and very detailed (probably boring to any other reader) but I felt the need to document it so she can see it later.

rules for undergarments

As Kristen was getting ready for bed after a bath, she informed me that she likes to get the panties on top of the pile. And when she puts clean ones away she puts them on the bottom of the pile so "all the panties get a turn on my bottom." She'll probably kill me for this one later.

My artist

Kaylen won a coloring contest at school this week. A winner was chosen from each classroom and got to choose a free book from the book fair. I just find this really interesting, and not to mention, humbling, because Kaylen does not hold her crayon "correctly." The occupational therapist in me has pushed her from the beginning to hold it correctly. I have tried telling her and I have tried my therapy tricks on her. She will do it when I tell her to but when I'm not watching she goes back to what is comfortable for her. As do all the kids I work with. :) But she loves to color and does it well. Sure makes me wonder if I know what I'm doing with all those kids I work with.

My first attempt at blogging

I've been extremely resistant to blogging - reading others' or doing my own. I already spend too much time at the computer and don't need another excuse. But some of my friends are using this tool to capture priceless things that their kids do or say and share them with others. Since my good intentions to journal those things the old fashioned way never work, I thought I'd try this route. Maybe I'll get more eloquent as I go but this is at least a start.

Kaylen's quote of the day: We were at the post office after hours today. Kaylen asked what time they closed. When I told her 12:00 she said "they probably close for lunch and then take a nap." Don't we all wish our jobs were like that?

Kristen's quote of the day: At bedtime we heard fireworks in the distance. I said "don't they know the 4th of July is over?" Kristen said "they probably don't have a calendar."
